Business & Industry

Ways to Participate:

Business and Industry Tours - provide tours of your business or industry for administrators, board members, teachers, counselors and students.

Work-based experiences - Shadowing, internships and other career experiences offered for College Now students.

Summer Mentorship and/or Employment - sponsor a one or two week summer mentorship to allow students or educators to work in your business or industry.

Speaker's bureau - provide speakers from your organization to visit and address area schools and/or Northark College.

Scholarships - provide scholarships for College Now students who plan ahead in high school and follow a program of study leading to post-secondary education.

Summary tape of your business - use in local schools to highlight your main functions, products and potential career opportunities.

Contribute materials or equipment - local schools will greatly appreciate any materials that can enhance program offerings.

Marketing - advertise career prep programs that improve the image of technical careers.

Educate working parents - family days at the job site to encourage parents to support skills that are required for successful workers.

Workplace policies - sponsor "family friendly" workplace policies to support parental involvement in education.

Adopt a School - "adopt" a local school and work with it to improve program offerings, career awareness opportunities and communication.

Job profiling - profile specific jobs or occupations to determine tasks, skills and skill level necessary to satisfactorily perform job.  Data to be used for employee screening, student assessment, development of training programs, job advancement or curricular development.

Strengthen communication - develop contacts with local schools, Northark College and legislators to make known your educational needs.

Recruit students - contact Northark College and local schools for recommendations of good workers.

Career awareness activities - participate in career days, career workshops and in-service activities at local schools and Northark College.

Curricular reform - help develop secondary/postsecondary curricula by serving on committees and attending workshops that are designed to revise curricula to meet your needs and integrate workplace skills.

Program advisory boards - participate in local educational planning and program advisory boards to contribute your insight and experience to the development of local education.

Career information - provide career information and skill assessment services for students and schools.

Tour local schools - visit local schools and Northark College to view facilities and talk with program directors, counselors and faculty.
